How Kids Mode helps young learners

Most music apps were built for adults and then squeezed into a kid-friendly skin. Tunory's Kids Mode goes the other way: the same proven tools that grown-ups use to tune a guitar, find a chord, train their ears, or track practice — wrapped in a calmer surface designed specifically for a child holding a ukulele in their bedroom. There is no leaderboard, no personalised feed, no notification system trying to pull a kid back into the app, and no character begging for in-app coins. Kids Mode exists to keep the focus where it belongs: on the instrument and the parent or teacher sitting next to them.

When you flip the toggle on, three concrete things happen. First, the base font size scales up so younger readers and learners can see chord names, note labels, and stat numbers without squinting. Second, every premium upsell prompt — the "Upgrade" buttons, locked icons, sticky banners, and "Coming soon" pills — disappears, so a child cannot accidentally tap a payment surface. Third, ads do not render inside the tool surfaces while Kids Mode is on, which keeps the page free of unrelated content and removes the small chance of an inappropriate creative slipping through. The result is a quieter, simpler interface that does one thing well: helps a kid get the next note, the next chord, or the next practice streak.

Privacy is the second pillar. Tunory does not require an account for any free tool, and Kids Mode is built on top of the same anonymous-first foundation. The tuner uses your device's microphone to detect pitch, but the audio is processed entirely inside the browser using the Web Audio API — it is never uploaded, never recorded, and never associated with any identifier. Practice Tracker entries live in your browser's local storage on that device only; nothing syncs to a server. Read the children's section of our privacy policy for the full breakdown of what we do and do not collect.

Kids Mode is a UX layer, not a separate product. The four curated tools above link straight into the standard Tunory tools — the same code, the same accuracy, the same engine. That matters because we want kids to grow into the same toolkit their parents and teachers use, without ever hitting a moment where the "kid version" runs out and they have to start over. Toggle Kids Mode off and the full interface returns; toggle it on and the surface simplifies again. It is your call, every session.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tunory safe for kids?
Yes. Tunory is designed to be safe for children to use. We do not collect personal data from kids, we do not require an account, and microphone audio used by the tuner stays inside the browser and is never sent to our servers. With Kids Mode turned on, ads and premium upsell prompts are hidden so the surface is just the tools. Parents should still supervise younger children, especially around microphone permission prompts.
Do I need to make an account?
No. Every tool on /kids works without an account, without a signup, and without an email address. Anonymous use is the default for the entire site, and that's especially important on the kids surface — we never want a child to be asked to type in personal information just to tune a guitar or find a chord.
What ages is this for?
Tunory's tools are designed for self-taught players of any age, but the Kids Mode UX is targeted at children roughly 6 to 12 years old who are learning their first instrument with help from a parent or teacher. Younger kids will need an adult nearby for the microphone-based tools (the tuner asks for permission to listen). Older kids and teens can use the regular site without Kids Mode if they prefer the standard layout.
Can my kid use it on a tablet or phone?
Yes. Every tool is mobile-first and works in any modern browser on a phone, tablet, Chromebook, or laptop. The tuner needs microphone access — on iOS Safari you may need to grant permission once when the tool first loads. There is nothing to install. If a tool ever fails to start the microphone, refresh the tab and grant permission when prompted.
